Let's try an experiment. Go get a seed (a bean or a pea or something) from you mother and drop it on the ground. Keep watching it for a little while. What is it doing? Nothing at all, I bet. That is the same thing it would do if it had died there.
Now lets think about where we dropped the seed. Was it on the floor of your room? Or was it on some other floor inside your house? What do you think will happen to that seed if you go away and leave it for a very long time? Probably it will just lay there until somebody steps on it and crunches it. Or maybe your mother will sweep it up BEFORE it gets crunched. I hope so, because you will probably get in less trouble that way. Actually, you better just pick it up right now so it doesn't cause a problem.
If you dropped your seed on the ground outside, where it could touch the soil and get rained on, it would also seem like it had died, but a miraculous thing might happen. It might sprout and grow into a big plant with many seeds of it's own!
Jesus told this story to show what He was about to do for us. He was willing to be like that seed, and die so that we could live.
